I always talk about why noticing beauty and bringing it into our lives is paramount, and while it feels significant, I think of it in a small, very personal way.
In an attempt of going deeper, I turned to research done on beauty and on it’s universal transformative qualities.
This is how Piero Ferruci, talks of the extraordinary power of everyday beauty:
- People with a vaster aesthetic range will have a greater capacity to understand others and adapt to their way of thinking.
- In fact, several studies have shown that even a brief contact with literature and art increases our capacity for empathy.
- The aesthetic range is a crucial factor because it guards against narrow-mindedness.
- To have a wide aesthetic range is a safeguard against any type of prejudice, because it reminds us that other ways of thinking exist and are as valid as ours.
- The world around us is full of variation and contrasting points of view: to gain cognitive flexibility, open to other ways of living, and being, has never been as urgent as it is now. Beauty can be an easy way to promote a universal outlook beyond provincialism and parochialism.’
I find this topic fascinating and can’t wait to lean into it more!
